Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum is the final resting place of several strong, inspirational women who have impacted history as we know it. Sips, Souls, and Strolls: Suffragists We are excited to announce the return of our popular Sips, Souls, and Strolls events! Enjoy a pleasant evening of light refreshments, beautiful surroundings, and a leisurely tour at Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum. From 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on April 1, 15, and 29, 2022, you can explore women's suffrage. From the St. Louis Union Aid Society created in reaction to Wilson creek (August 1861) to the formation of the Woman's Suffrage Association of Missouri (May 1867), St. Louis women were on the cutting edge of securing the Right to Vote. Wine, beer, soft drinks, and light appetizers will be served. Walking terrain is mild with a mixture of hard and soft surfaces. Please wear appropriate outdoor walking attire. Cathleen’s Chapel Walking Tour Walking is the ideal way to observe the cemetery. Our Walk with Cathleen begins at Wildwood Valley. A variety of plants bloom from spring to fall. We will pass a suffragist, a doctor who helped save St. Louis during the 1918 pandemic, and a cookbook author. Bellefontaine Cemetery's 7th Annual Fox Trot 5K + Kit Crawl 10K Enjoy a 5K or 10K run through Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum’s 314 acres during the emergence of Spring. The rolling hills of Bellefontaine will allow a greater appreciation of the 87,000 lives commemorated on the grounds of the oldest Garden Cemetery west of the Mississippi and the over 9,000 trees throughout the cemetery. Participate in-person or virtually. In-Person 5K/10K - Saturday, April 9th Check-in 7:45 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Race starts at 8:35 a.m. Registration for the chip-timed in-person runs includes a race shirt and commemorative race medal. Caravan Tour Join us for a guided caravan tour! Follow along in your own car as we drive to four locations within the cemetery. Wildwood Valley is our first stop where flowers bloom from the spring until fall, and a famous doctor, a suffragist, and a cookbook author are buried nearby. Next, we’ll explore the mausoleums on Prospect and will be granted entry to the Wainwright Tomb and Lemp Mausoleum. William Clark’s plot is our third destination. The large monument is dedicated to his heroic efforts on the Voyage of Discovery. Join us for our a brisk spring walk through Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum! In the months of March, April, and May, we offer a two-hour walking tour of the cemetery and arboretum. This 2-hour walk will be led by one of our Master Guides who will convey highlights of the cemetery grounds, horticulture, and a variety of intriguing figures who call Bellefontaine their last address. Particular attention will be paid to the Horticulture side of the cemetery while in different levels of bloom during these spring tours. ♦ A limited number of registrations for the tour are available so reservations are required.♦ Two-hour walking tours cover about 2 miles across moderate terrain.♦ Please wear appropriate walking attire.♦ We ask that everyone arrive between 15 to 20 minutes before tour time for a prompt departure.♦ Tours are free; however donations to the Friends of Bellefontaine Cemetery are gratefully accepted. This two-hour trolley tour will be led by one of our Master Guides who will convey highlights of the cemetery grounds, horticulture, and a variety of intriguing historic figures who now rest at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Our trolley tours are from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. ♦ Seating is limited and tickets are required.♦ We ask that everyone arrive between 9:30 am and 9:45 am for a prompt 10:00 am departure.♦ The Trolley is climate controlled but weather-appropriate clothing is suggested as opportunities to disembark from the vehicle are available.♦ Trolley tour tickets are $5 each.
