All aboard the trolley at Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum for a special 1904 World’s Fair trolley tour! From David R. Francis to Isaac Taylor, this tour will spotlight the people who helped shape the event that took place in Forest Park from April 30 through December 1, 1904. An estimated 20 million visitors attended the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, and some of those attendees traveled to Bellefontaine Cemetery to pay homage to a person directly connected to the new American Territory acquired in 1803! Trolley tour tickets are free with a suggested donation of $5 each. Caravan Tour Join us for a guided caravan tour! Drive along in your car and follow the caravan led by our Master Guide Cathleen. We will drive to a few different locations inside historic Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum. At each location, we will all exit our vehicles and Cathleen will give us a tour through history! The adventure begins with a drive to our serene Wildwood Valley Gardens. We will walk the Gardens and visit the impressive Cascade Mausoleum, our newest mausoleum. The next stop is Prospect Avenue. The "movers and shakers" of the 1900s are buried there. The last stop is the area surrounding explorer William Clark's plot. Spring Arboretum Trolley Tour Join one of our Horticulturists for a two-hour trolley tour exploring Missouri’s first ArbNet Level III Accredited Arboretum. This tour will focus on what is currently blooming amongst Bellefontaine’s collection of about 10,000 trees and shrubs, representing nearly 600 distinct species, selections, and varieties. What to expect in bloom: early spring - daffodils, tulips, cherries, Magnolias, & more; mid to late spring - irises, azaleas, dogwoods, tulip trees, & more. Come learn more about what makes Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum an extraordinary horticultural and historical treasure of St. Louis! We are actively continuing with cleanup and restoration efforts following the May 16 EF3 tornado. This was the strongest tornado to hit St. Louis since 1959, bringing winds up to 152 mph and causing extensive damage.In this challenging time, our thoughts are with all those affected by the storm's devastating 23-mile path. We stand with our neighbors and the City of St. Louis as we all work together to recover and rebuild.We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Cemetery and Arboretum soon.
