Bellefontaine Cemetery's 3rd Fall Race Registration is now open for our 2024 Coyote Crawl 5K and Head for the Hills 10K! Enjoy a walk or run through Missouri's first Level III Arboretum (and one of only 47 in the world!) while surrounded by incredible fall foliage. Our rolling hills make this closed course a fun and memorable experience as you walk or run through the Cemetery. We are celebrating our 175th anniversary this year. Founded in 1849, Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum has been the final resting place for many of St. Louis’s notable figures, including Priscila Baltimore, General William Clark, Sarah Teasdale, and Adolphus Busch. You will find world-renowned architecture such as the Wainwright Mausoleum, our historic Hotchkiss Chapel, and the “Girl in the Glass Box” nestled among our 14 miles of roadway. A diverse collection of close to 10,000 trees and shrub varieties dot the landscape, making an enjoyable run/walk through history and nature. The race will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024. Join us at Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum on Veterans Day (Monday, November 11) from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. for our Medal of Honor walking tour. During this two-hour walking tour, you will visit the graves of the 10 Medal of Honor recipients laid to rest at Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum. While on this walk, each of the 10 will have their American and Medal of Honor flags refreshed. At each grave, their accomplishments will be read aloud from the submissions made to secure their accommodation. Attendees will carry flags to each burial location and be part of honoring these 10 heroes of our country. This event is free, but space is limited. Sign up now! We’re celebrating the culmination of our 2024 Artist in Residence program on Saturday, November 16, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cemetery in our beautiful Wildwood Valley Gardens. Charles Turnell, Bellefontaine’s 2024 Artist in Residence, will unveil art he is gifting to Bellefontaine, and will be on permanent display. Charles will unveil the final installation at 4:30 p.m., and then speak about the inspiration for his final installation, as well as his journey throughout his historic inaugural residency.
