"Sinners" and "Saints" at Bellefontaine Cemetery The era in which we live may impact the definition of a "saint" or a "sinner". For example, Virginia Minor worked most of her life to make the world better for others. During the Civil War, she worked with the St. Louis Union Aid Society, a precursor to the American Red Cross. Later, she would strive to secure women the right to vote. At first, Virginia tried using the 14th Amendment to vote in the Presidential of 1872. Moving forward, she would be a Suffragist for the cause. In 1894, at the time of her death, no clergy would officiate since Virginia was disrupting the natural order of the times. Learn how others in their time may have been classified and how we view their lives today. Sign up now to attend this free 50-minute Zoom presentation. REGISTER NOW! St. Louis Baseball History Presentation and Book-signing Event Join us at our Historic Hotchkiss Chapel for a book presentation from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Question and answer time with the author will follow, with a book-signing event from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Bellefontaine Cemetery has a rich Baseball history dating back to the Club Era up to the modern age of baseball, including one of the original owners of the St. Louis Cardinals. "St. Louis has a well-deserved reputation for the best fans in baseball and a rich baseball history that stretches back to before 1860. Visit the Musial Statue and learn the history of an iconic city landmark. Tour the final resting places of baseball Hall of Famers such as George Sisler and Cool Papa Bell. Stop by the building Curt Flood used to create his paintings when he was off the field. Travel to a funeral home owned by a player nicknamed Bow Wow. Author Brian Flaspohler takes you on a tour of the best baseball sites in the Gateway to the West." About the author: "Brian Flaspohler is a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan who grew up in a small town in central Missouri. He retired from a real job as a manufacturing engineer and now spends his days researching and writing about baseball history. He still watches the Cardinals but has officially reached the age where it is more fun to read about past baseball exploits than to watch the current game. He is a longtime member of the Society for American Baseball Research and a contributor to both the Bio Project and the Games Project. He has also written about the 1880s St. Louis Browns for a book on Sportsman's Park. When not occupied with baseball, he spends his time running the byways and trails in and around the St. Louis area. As of this writing, he has run every single day for more than nine years." This event is free. Books will be available for purchase. Sign up now! REGISTER NOW! Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum is located at 4947 W. Bellefontaine Cemetery Beer Barons Beer making has been part of the St. Louis scene since the mid-1800. The city became a leader in beer production because of our location, lots of clean water, unique cave systems used to lager the beer, and a heavy migration of Germans who helped make and consume the product. Over 60 Beer Barons are buried at Bellefontaine. This online presentation will focus on eleven of the more provocative Barons. Some well-known include Busch, Anheuser, and Lemp, and some less prominent like Max Feuerbacher and William Nolker. Sign up now to attend this free 50-minute Zoom presentation. REGISTER NOW!
