Lyda Krewson is the 46th mayor of St. Louis. Of the 45 mayors who preceded her, 21 have been laid to rest at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Some of these mayors went on to hold other political offices in Missouri; others fulfilled duties for other territories. Many had important roles outside of politics that aided development in the city, region and state. Their stories interweave to show how St. Louis has changed over the years. This program will be led by Dan Fuller. The class is presented in cooperation with the St. Louis Community College Continuing Education Department. St. Louis Community College Continuing Education Classes are free to the public, but reservations are required. Call St. Louis Community College at (314) 984-7777 to make a reservation. |

Founded in 1849, Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum has been the final resting place for many of St. Louis’s notable figures including William Clark, Adolphus Busch, and the Lemp Family. Celebrated architecture such as the Wainwright Mausoleum, Hotchkiss Chapel, and the ‘Girl in the Glass Box’ can also be found on the grounds. The cemetery has a diverse collection of over 7,000 trees and shrub varieties in its arboretum making an enjoyable run/walk through history and nature. The Fox Trot is a nod to our resident foxes who, according to some Native American Traditions, represent the spirit of one’s ancestors when seen on a burial ground. Check-in begins at 8:00 AM. The race starts at 8:30 AM. $30 for Adults age 16+ - Registration with Shirt $20 for Youth 15 and under - Registration with Shirt $10 for Registration only RESTRICTIONS: For the safety of Fox Trot participants bicycles and pets on leashes are not permitted in the race. Proceeds from the run will benefit the Friends of Bellefontaine mission to support the cemetery’s conservation and preservation efforts and to support educational and cultural opportunities for the community. When Bellefontaine Cemetery was founded in 1849, burial practices were simple: Bodies were simply placed inside wood caskets. Cremation and embalming came much later. Nowadays at Bellefontaine—the first cemetery in St. Louis to offer green burial services—individuals may choose to forgo embalming and be buried inside biodegradable containers such as linen shrouds and wicker caskets. This program will be led by Richard Lay. The class is presented in cooperation with the St. Louis Community College Continuing Education Department. St. Louis Community College Continuing Education Classes are free to the public, but reservations are required. Call St. Louis Community College at (314) 984-7777 to make a reservation. |
