Tyrone Anthony Apollo, PhD, 78, died peacefully from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease in the early morning on August 14, 2024 at Evelyn’s House, a BJC Hospice House in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was the first-born son to the late Eugene and Lillian Apollo (Chatlovsky) of New York City (The Bronx). His father was a postal worker and his mother, a homemaker. At the age of 8, he moved with his family to St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in the long-established Italian neighborhood of ‘The Hill’ in south St. Louis. After graduating from Southwest High School, Tyrone worked at a veterinarian office in south St. Louis, as well as Spencer’s Grill and the Post Office in Kirkwood. It was there that he learned the value of obtaining a good education. While working full-time, he earned his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Missouri and soon after began his career as a high school history, psychology, and sociology teacher with St. Louis Public Schools. Tyrone advanced his education and earned his master’s degree in guidance and counseling where he became a high school counselor for Central Visual and Performing Arts High School as well as Roosevelt High School. He was also an adjunct professor at Lindenwood University where he taught graduate school counseling courses to master level students. Tyrone earned his doctorate degree in counseling from St. Louis University and became a marriage and family therapist, where he counseled families in need during the summer and on weekends. He served in the St. Louis Public School system for 32 years.

Tyrone loved to travel and visited Russia, Greece, England, St. Thomas, Mexico, Hawaii and many other locations. He enjoyed motorcycles and owned 8 of them throughout his lifetime. He was also a long-distance runner and participated in 5k races around the St. Louis metropolitan area. He enjoyed fine dining, attending museums, and socializing with close friends.

He leaves behind two daughters, Erin and Nicole (Kevin), one granddaughter Erica Bisch (Carlos) and two great grandchildren, Jackson Anthony and Olivia Nicole.

Tyrone’s final words were, “I did it”.

The family wishes to thank BJC Hospice for the outstanding care and service provided to Tyrone during his final 10 months of life.
