Obituary For Roland H Meyer

It is with broken hearts that we share with our family and friends the sudden loss of Roland Meyer - beloved husband and father. Roland had a gift for bringing joy and laughter to the lives of his loved ones, always ready with clever puns and jokes. He is survived by his wife Marilyn and sons, Eric and Kent, as well as daughter-in-laws, Amanda and Kristen, all of whom he was immensely proud. His impact on his friends and family cannot be understated. Marilyn and Roland recently celebrated 41 years of a close and loving marriage, after meeting many years ago on the tennis court. What a player he was!

He was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of Webster Gardens and was always ready to help friends and neighbors. Roland was born and raised in the City of St Louis, attending McKinley High School and graduating from UMSL with a degree in Psychology. He moved to Webster Groves when we married in 1982. He retired from work as a Senior Accounting Technician in the Accounting Service Center of the US Postal Service, where he met Greg, with whom he developed a deep friendship. Previously he had worked many years handling the mail with his life-long buddies: Ray, Harvey, and Joe.

Roland had a busy life, often saying, “With everything we do, whenever did I work?”. Walking the deck of a cruise ship was a true delight in his life. We shared many wonderful cruises throughout the Caribbean, to Alaska, in the Pacific Northwest, on the Eastern seaboard , around the Hawaiian Islands, and on the Great Lakes, loving every minute. Roland was always anxious to check the menu! He looked forward to our monthly lunches with the YMCA friends at Panera’s, where we shared many laughs. Attending plays, walking at the zoo, lunching with friends, and visiting art museums was another interest, but thrifting and attending sales was a TRUE love!

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, we will celebrate his life in at the Lutheran Church of Webster Gardens, 8749 Watson Road, Webster Groves 63119. The schedule of events is as follows:

1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. - Visitation

2:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. - Memorial Service

2:30 p.m. - Celebration of Life with coffee and dessert.

My time working with Mr. Roland Meyer downtown at the ASC/ISC (Acctng Svs Ctr/Information Svs Ctr) was such a pleasure. So much fun to talk to. Our Dear Friend Roland, we have many fond memories of being with you and Marilyn. Our travels together, concerts, plays, lunches & dinners.. Many Christmas Eves with Family&Friends at our home. Watching our Sons grow up. We will miss your witty humor your smile and getting to see you Tuesday morning. I know that your keeping a prayfull eye on all of us here and you will always be misse. We Know the day will come when we will all be welcome into His Kingdom, and that will be a Glorious day indeed 🙏❤️

I've had the pleasure of knowing Roland for many years since we both started working together at the Post Office in 1974. Through the years we have shared many funny stories about our families and our friends. We would text each other as we watched the Cardinals play baseball and I always enjoyed hearing Roland's comments.about each game. They just don't come any better than Roland. He was a very smart man and had a way to make you smile and often laugh out loud. Take care , my friend---til we meet again !! Harvey Wheeler

We had mutual friends Carol and Bo Grotha so we would see Marilyn and Roland when with them. Roland was a kind and gentle man and always had a smile on his face. We were saddened to learn of his sudden passing. We are sending love to Marilyn and family. The gatherings won't be the same without his kind matter in presence! Rest in peace Roland!

About 50 years ago Roland and I took a vacation trip to the small Mexican town of Cancun. At that time many Americans had not heard of Cancun. While there we took a tour to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itzu. The Pyramid of El Castillo in Chichen Itzu has 91 extremely narrow steps on each of its 4 sides rising to a single step at the top. The bus driver told Roland and I to be back at a certain time. If we were not back by that time, he would beep the horn and wait one minute before driving off. Roland and I slowly climbed up the narrow steps to the top of the Pyramid and the bottom of the clouds. As we were admiring the amazing view from the top, the bus driver blew his horn. Not wanting to spend the night in the Mexican jungle, both Roland and I ran down those 91 narrow steps, avoiding sudden death to make the bus on time. As we approached the bus, the driver had already closed the door, but mercifully opened it, saving us from spending the night in Chichen Itza or maybe spending the rest of our lives there! I have other stories of our Mexican vacation and our tennis exploits which space does not allow. All in all, I just want to say that the world is a better place because of my friend Roland!
