Obituary For Randall James Middeke

Randall James Middeke, 71, of St. Louis, MO, passed away January 20, 2026, with his wife Patti Middeke, children, and loved ones surrounding him while Patti sang Heavenly Day to him.

Randy was born January 6, 1955, to Carol DeCoster and James Middeke. He is survived by his wife Patti Middeke; his children Magdaline (Jonathan) Middeke Meyers, Kristen Middeke, Claire Middeke, Megan Mayfield, and grandchildren Judah, Asher, Henry, and Abram; siblings Shevawn (Sonny) Tankersley, Sheryl (Bart) Middeke, Bret (Robyn) Middeke, Richard (Lynda) Middeke, Rod (Karen) LaBarge, Penny LaBarge-Huster, Bernice and Kim Middeke; stepmother Sally; and so many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and their children. He is preceded in death by his brother Bart, sister Tammy, mother Carol, father Jim, and stepfather Bob LaBarge.

Randy was a steadfast and adoring husband for 50 years, strong-girl dad, proud grandfather, elder and father figure to many in his church and community. He was the well-respected Founder of City Lights Design + Build, preserving historical integrity in the city of St. Louis for many years with his brother Richard. He was also a founding member and elder at New City Fellowship – South. He and Patti started their family and were also longtime members of Christian Fellowship in Columbia, MO, before his love of scripture led him back to St. Louis to obtain a Master of Divinity at Covenant Theological Seminary.

Randy was a man of many passions. A skilled carpenter, sensitive artist, lover of music, art and literature — he cultivated many hobbies and interests over the course of his life. He loved nature, hiking with Patti, gardening, tinkering around the house, loud music, watching birds and roasting coffee in the courtyard, and giving scratchy kisses to his grandsons. He is remembered for his thoughtfulness, wisdom, and mountainous stature as a gentle giant with a booming laugh.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 10 a.m., at The Journey Tower Grove (2833 S. Kingshighway Blvd. STL 63139). He will be laid to rest at Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum (4947 W. Florissant Ave, STL 63115) following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Firm Foundation Tutoring Program in his memory.

My farewell to a brother who stored up treasure in heaven, where moth and rust cannot destroy, and thieves cannot break in and steal. As one who knew a thing or two about residential fix-ups, Randy, I imagine you're finding delight in the place Jesus has been preparing for you! To Randy's wonderful family: blessed are those who mourn... may your grief be filled with bright hope in Christ
