Obituary For Ottilia N. Voegtli

Voegtli, Ottilia N. “Tillie” on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the age of 88. Leo, her beloved husband of 61 years, predeceased her in 2017. She is survived by her five children - Ros (Willis), Elaine (Scott), David, Leo Paul (Naomi) and Barb (Chris). Tillie was the proud grandmother to thirteen grandchildren - Brighton (Jeff), Matt (Steveie), David (Jacqui), Andy, Trevor, Dylan (Sarah), Jon (Veronica), Shelby (Cody), Adam, Luke (Erin), Katie (Charlie), Alex (Ellen) and Ian (Whitney) and a growing number of great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister, Elti, sister-in-law Tommy (Nik), nieces, nephews and many loving cousins.

Besides her role as wife, mother and grandmother, her proudest accomplishments were in the arena of education. Tillie graduated with a B.A. from Washington University in 1957. During her years as a “stay at home mom,” she taught a class on winning contests, wrote an instructional book on natural family planning, and volunteered at her children’s schools. She later earned an Associate Degree in Accounting and then matriculated at University of Missouri - Saint Louis and received her MBA. In the fall of 1978, she began her 22 year career with UMSL as a Marketing Instructor in the School of Business, Area Coordinator and Department Chair.

After her retirement, Leo and Tillie travelled extensively. She loved reading, her pool room and deck top garden, the ladies of Whispering Hills and Old Farm Estates, her dear neighbors, the Sink-or-Swim Investment Club and presiding over family events.

Tillie chose a green burial for a natural return to the earth. Service will be private.

Tillie lived across the street from my daughter Beth Huebner on Bookbinder drive. Because I was there frequently, I talked to her many times about the life of a mother, her work at umsl and grandchildren. She was so warm, down to earth, and intelligent. I will miss seeing her very much. Rest in peace dear lady. Ruth Huebner.

I enjoyed getting to know Tillie from 2013-2018 when she attended my YMCA Energy Balance class. She was faithful every Thursday at noon and I got to know her there. Sometimes Tillie would share things she remembered from childhood during WW2 in Germany and we would listen with compassion. I got to see her pool room one afternoon when she invited me over after class at the Y. Tillie enhanced my life and I am grateful to have known her. My condolences to her family. She loved all of you so much and talked about her pride in every one of you.
