Obituary For Joseph Martin Nicastro

Joseph Martin Nicastro, age 74, of Florissant, Missouri was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on Friday, August 13, 1948, at St. Anthony’s Hospital to Tom and Edith Nicastro.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Vicki L. Nicastro (nee Green), and his three children, Thomas A. Nicastro (Linn), Timothy J. Nicastro (Bridget), and Tina M. Brandlen (Jimmy); four grandchildren, Anthony Nicastro, Collin Nicastro, Landon Nicastro and Ashley Nicastro and many relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Edith Nicastro; sister, Mary Lynn (nee Nicastro); brothers-in-law, John F. Kohler; and Larry W. Green.

He proudly served our country, entering the US Air Force on November 2, 1966, during the Vietnam War era. He was stationed at Lackland Military Training Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas for his basic training. After basic training, he was stationed at Orlando Air Force Base, Orlando, Florida, and Norton Air Force Base, San Bernardino, California. He received his GED while he was in the United States Air Force and attended San Bernardino Junior College while in the Air Force and then Florissant Community College after discharge. He was honorably discharged on August 24, 1970. He was in inactive reserve until November 1, 1972. He also was in the Missouri Army National Guard, stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, with the Military Police, from November 16, 1979, until November 15, 1987, when he was honorably discharged.

After returning home he worked for the North-Central Fire Alarm Dispatching Center as a Dispatcher; worked for St. Louis Diecasting from 1971 to 1984; St. Louis Public Schools from 1984 to 2002; and, also, was a Reserve Police Officer for the Charlack Police Department from 1982 to 1986.

Throughout his life he loved to fish, hunt, bowl, golf, travel, go to the casino occasionally, and teach Missouri Hunter Education classes and the NRA concealed carry classes.

Joe loved his family very much and will be forever missed by all.

Services: Memorial/Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel at Bellefontaine Cemetery, 4947 West Florissant Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri 63115 on Saturday, February 18, 2023, with the visitation from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the service at 1:30 p.m.

Burial: Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 12:45 p.m. with full military honors.

Memorials: Joe’s family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
