Obituary For Duncan Ivers Meier
Duncan Ivers Meier III, age 88, of Chesterfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 2, 2026, at Delmar Gardens in Chesterfield, Missouri. He was born to Duncan I. Meier Jr. and Marie Ball Meier on January 23, 1938, in Evanston, Illinois. Duncan lived a rich and varied life marked by intellectual curiosity, professional accomplishment, and a deep love for people and the arts. He graduated MICDS in 1956. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis. Over his long career, he worked as a computer programmer for Emerson Electric, a systems analyst for Monsanto, a project leader for Iowa Beef, a data processing manager for Crystal Sugar, and a lead programmer for Microsystems. He also shared his knowledge as a college professor of computer science at Minnesota State University Moorhead and in Wahpeton, North Dakota.
An outgoing and social man who loved people, Duncan was a gifted storyteller with a warm and engaging personality. He was a devoted husband of 63 years, a wonderful father, and a dedicated member of the Anglican Church, where he sang in the church choir all his life. He formed many deep friendships throughout his entire life, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His many passions included sailing as a young man, acting in community theater, singing in opera choruses and with the Missouri Choral Society, and serving as a docent at the St. Louis Zoo. He had a lifelong love of history and a deep appreciation for opera, which brought him great joy throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Suzan Murray Meier; his daughter, Lauren Meier Blumhagen, and son-in-law, Brad Blumhagen; his daughter-in-law, Shawn Meier; his granddaughters, McKenzie Meier and Grace Loomis; his grandson, Brandon Blumhagen; and his sister, Julia Meier Schmitt. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Grace Massey, his son Duncan Emil Meier.
