Daniel Bernard Bauwens (Dan), 74, of St. Louis, passed away surrounded by loved ones on March 23, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Elizabeth Bauwens, his brother Steven Bauwens, and his nephew, Alex Hanna. He is survived by his spouse, Barbara Bauwens née West, his son, Robert Bauwens, and his daughter Brianna Bauwens (Clay McPeak), and his two grandchildren, Guy McPeak and Roy McPeak. He is also survived by his seven siblings: Teri Milan, Randy Bauwens (Judy), Tom Bauwens, Dave Bauwens (Sheri), Sandy Hanna (Dale), Jean Thomsen (John), and Greg Bauwens (Emily), in addition to many nieces and nephews. Dan looked forward to seeing his brothers on their annual fishing trips, meeting up with his siblings and their families at family reunions, and spending his retirement with his wife Barb.

Dan was born on July 5, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and earned his doctorate in Medicine from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1975. Dan began his career as a Cardiologist at St. Luke’s Hospital where he met his wife, Barb. They were married on May 10, 1986, at the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis. Dan had a long career helping people as a Cardiologist, and later as an addiction medicine specialist.

Dan gave in death as he gave in life. His final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ donation.

Dan will be remembered for his love of continuous learning, his sharp wit, his culinary skills, and his sense of humor. He was loved by his family, and he will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be held at the Cathedral Basilica at 9:00am on April 2, 2024, with a funeral mass to follow at 10:00am.
