Obituary For Barrett Braun

Barrett Braun was born March 27, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri and entered into rest Saturday, October 9, 2021 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Whether he was listening to live blues music, officiating a Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) race, doing pro bono legal work for the St. Louis and blues music community, or having family and friends over for a crab boil, Barrett did so with kindness, joy, and a twinkle in his eye. Barrett received his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees from Washington University and began practicing law at the Legal Aid Society of St. Louis. During his career in law, he served on the Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar and as a Commissioner on The Missouri Bar IOLTA Commission. He was passionate about music, especially blues music, and he was actively involved in the St. Louis Blues Society, the National Blues Museum in St. Louis, and KDHX radio, providing legal representation and serving in leadership roles. A car enthusiast all his life, Barrett raced an Austin-Healey Sprite in SCCA races, and his roles in the SCCA included Regional Executive, National Chief Steward, and Majors Series Chief Steward.

Barrett is preceded in death by his parents, William Lafon Braun and Jayne (née Shellabarger) Braun, and he is survived by his loving partner Ann (née Piffel) Rudy, daughter Whitney (Corey) Arnold and grandchildren Madeleine and Jack, brother Stephen (Diane) Braun, Ann’s children Valerie (Steven) Rudy-Valli and Elizabeth (Christopher) Benson and grandchildren Craig and Catherine, extended family, and a tremendous circle of friends.
