Cathleen’s Walk The adventure begins with a drive to the William Clark Plot. Walking to the ideal way to observe the cemetery. It is easy to view monuments and take in the scenic view. After checking out William Clark’s family plot, we will visit the graves of three Civil War participants and an African American doctor who changed health care in St. Louis. Down the road, there are two suffragists. Across the street is the Hempstead family plot which is the oldest in the cemetery. Hidden under some trees, we’ll discover a statue of a seven year old bot looking dapper in his knickers and well as an iron cross revealing the last name of Chouteau. By telling their stories and visiting their graves, I hope to keep their memories alive. ♦ Space is limited and reservations are required♦ Walking terrain is mild with a mixture of hard and soft surfaces♦ Please wear appropriate outdoor walking attire♦ We ask that everyone arrive 15 to 20 minutes before tour time for a prompt departure♦ This is a rain-or-shine event except in the case of extreme lightning REGISTER NOW! Architects and Architecture at Bellefontaine Cemetery Bellefontaine Cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and noted for its contribution to cemetery design in the nineteenth century, and many of Bellefontaine’s tombs and monuments are recognized as important, unique features of the cemetery. Not only is the art and architecture at Bellefontaine Cemetery beautiful and fascinating, but so are the stories of the architects who rest here. Join us on Wednesday, June 7, at 7:00 p.m., for an online presentation about the Architects of Bellefontaine Cemetery. Architecture is the soul of a city, while skylines often are the signature. This presentation will begin with early St. Louis architect George I. Barnett, who made a significant impact on the early history of St. Louis, and then move through time to cover William Sylvester Eames, Isaac Taylor, and others who impacted both the buildings and very fabric of St. Louis. Reservations are required, so please sign up today! Our Zoom video presentations are free. However, donations to the Friends of Bellefontaine Cemetery are gratefully accepted. REGISTER NOW!
