Consolations of Memory at Bellefontaine Cemetery, Saturday, October 15, 2022 After a two year hiatus this event is back at Bellefontaine Cemetery! This isn’t like all the other fall cemetery tours. Rather than portraying the spirits of those buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery we portray the living, breathing people of the era who were left behind to mourn the loss of a loved one. This year’s event will focus on the importance of symbolism during the nineteenth century from cemetery iconography to the language of the flowers. A short walking tour will be followed by 19th century funeral service held in Hotchkiss Chapel, burial procession and graveside service of Mary Waters, who died in 1868 at the age of 102. This is a free event. Tours take place at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. Space is limited, so be sure to register for one of these tours here today! Register Now! There are six different tour times from which you can choose. Registration is required, so please sign up for your preferred tour time by clicking on one of the links below. TOUR TIMES 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. - SOLD OUT! 9:45 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. - SOLD OUT! 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. - SOLD OUT! 11:45 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. - SOLD OUT! 1:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. - SOLD OUT! 1:45 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. - SOLD OUT!

World War I Veterans of St. Louis at Bellefontaine Cemetery St. Louisans and their role in "The War to end all Wars" was significant. Participation in battles such as Chateau Thierry, Soissons, and the Argonne Forest would see loss of life of native sons while making America a World Power for the first time. The Marines at Belleau Woods will earn a reputation still known throughout the world today, but at what cost? Even some of our local businesses and institutions played important roles in the War effort. 1964 St. Louis Cardinals Presentation and Book-signing Event Join us at our Historic Hotchkiss Chapel for a book presentation from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Question and answer time with the author will follow, with a book-signing event from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. In one of the most exciting seasons in baseball history, the 1964 St. Louis Cardinals surged in the final months to steal the pennant and top the mighty Yankees in seven games to capture the World Series. How did an unlikely assortment of people and events come together for such a monumental achievement? Look no further than ’64 Cardinals, a photo-illustrated story of promise, turmoil, and triumph. Discover how the famous trade for Lou Brock provided a jolt that reversed a summer swoon. Witness superstar pitcher Bob Gibson ascend to dominance down the stretch and meet the other indispensables—Curt Flood, Dick Groat, Bill White, Julian Javier, Tim McCarver, Mike Shannon, Barney Schultz, team captain Kenny Boyer, and others—who helped power the team through the National League meat-grinder and the ultimate clash of historic heavyweights. High drama wasn’t limited to the field, thanks to a harddriving owner, Gussie Busch, and his “special consultant,” Branch Rickey. The book illuminates how palace intrigue foreshadowed the unthinkable departures of general manager Bing Devine and manager Johnny Keane during and after the Series, respectively. With key facts, engaging anecdotes, and direct observations from players who lived the experience this rare volume will bring to life a truly thrilling season. An exhilarating ride for any baseball fan, ’64 Cardinals also heralds the return of the writing team of baseball historian Bob Tiemann and broadcast journalist Ron Jacober, who co-authored the local bestseller Immortal Moments in Cardinals History. Whether you watched the 1964 Cardinals in person, or have just heard the stories passed down over the years, this book is the capstone on any baseball lover’s collection.Bellefontaine Cemetery has a rich Baseball history dating back to the Club Era up to the modern age of baseball, including one of the original owners of the St. Louis Cardinals. This event is free. Books will be available for purchase. Sign up now! REGISTER NOW! Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum is located at 4947 W.
