2021 marks our Historic Beer Barons Tour's tenth year! Last year our virtual tour allowed our far away Friends an opportunity to join the celebration. The virtual tour returns in 2021. You can support the cemetery's conservation, education, and community programming efforts with a purchase of the Tenth Anniversary Virtual Tour for $20. Watch the video whenever you would like—at any time on any day! The final resting places of many of the early St. Louis beer barons such as Uhrig, Lemp, Wainwright, Anheuser, Busch, and Griesedieck can be found at Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum. Their monuments speak of family fortunes won and lost and how legacies intertwined as breweries merged, burned, closed, and re-opened. We have created this event to share their stories and celebrate the new and emerging craft beer movement in our community. You can support the cemetery's conservation, education, and community programming efforts with a purchase of the 10th Anniversary Beer Barons Tour video edition. This offer is only available through December 31st, 2021. Purchase a virtual ticket online now! Get your virtual ticket here: BUY A VIRTUAL PASS Please note, this is NOT an all-day event and the video does not have to be watched on Dec. 31, 2021. It's only listed on the calendar view that way so that an event could be created. This offer expires on Dec. 31, 2021, at midnight so buy your virtual pass now!

Cemetery Symbolism at Bellefontaine Cemetery Iconography is the study or interpretation of images or symbols used on headstones, crypts, and mausoleums in a cemetery. Cemeteries are virtual encyclopedias of symbolism. The symbols on a person’s grave may help tell us something about their life. Grave markers not only record the dearly departed’s name and date of birth and death, but the design can often indicate a person’s history, religion, ethnicity, culture, occupation, or social status as well as their pleasures, sorrows, and hopes for the afterlife. At Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum, we provide architectural and symbolism in-person tours throughout the year. We’ve had so much interest in the symbols on various grave markers and mausoleums that we thought we’d do a video presentation to share more information about "iconography". Join us for an exciting, 50-minute Zoom presentation that will explain some of the different symbols you may see at Bellefontaine Cemetery. REGISTER NOW! MAKE A GIFT These presentations are free. However, donations to the Friends of Bellefontaine Cemetery are gratefully accepted To make a gift to the Friends of Bellefontaine, email Cara Crocker or call our office at 314-381-0750.
