The tour will begin inside the Hotchkiss Chapel built in 1909. On the road, we’ll walk to the final resting place of Adolphus and Lily Busch, several Civil War generals, Steamboat captains, a contemporary artist and the founder of kindergarten. Some of the names you may not recognize but their stories will intrigue you. ♦ Space is limited and reservations are required ♦ Walking terrain is mild with a mixture of hard and soft surfaces ♦ Please wear appropriate outdoor walking attire ♦ We ask that everyone arrive 15 to 20 minutes before tour time for a prompt departure ♦ This is a rain or shine event except in the case of extreme lightning Tours are free, however, donations to the Friends of Bellefontaine Cemetery are gratefully accepted.

The Life and Times of Charles Parsons—Genesis of the St. Louis Art Scene Charles Parsons is one of St. Louis's and the nation's most influential yet little-known figures. He was instrumental to the Union cause as a Civil War quartermaster and advisor to generals politicians and presidents alike. As a world-traveler art connoisseur, he helped found the first art museum west of the Mississippi, to which he donated his remarkable collection of American, European and Asian art. To this day, his philanthropic work and dedication to education live on in some of the country's grandest institutions. Author John Launius tells the full story for the first time, from business failures in a riverside boomtown to national renown. Book Presentation 2:00-3:00 Q&A and Book Signing from 3:00-4:00
