African American History Trolley Tour
A misconception about Bellefontaine Cemetery is that the grounds were only for ‘some’ St. Louisans. On the contrary, as a non-sectarian cemetery, Bellefontaine has been open to ‘all’ since its beginning in 1849. African American history is a vibrant topic on the 314 acres of Bellefontaine. From Mother Baltimore to John Berry Meachum to Ida Woolfolk, African American history has always been present in this Rural Cemetery.
Join us for an upcoming trolley tour! Our guides will lead this two-hour tour, telling stories of intriguing figures in African American History while showing highlights of the Cemetery grounds and monuments. Seating is limited and tickets are required. The trolley is climate controlled but weather-appropriate clothing is suggested as opportunities to disembark from the vehicle are available.
Trolley tour tickets are free with a suggested donation of $5 each. You may also make a donation at the event. Your donations allow us to cover trolley expenses. Proceeds support the Friends of Bellefontaine and benefit the Cemetery’s community support programs like Angels Rest, historic preservation, and educational tours.
These tours will fill to capacity quickly, so make sure you register today!
Donations to the Friends of Bellefontaine Cemetery are always gratefully accepted. To make a gift to the Friends of Bellefontaine, email Joe Shields or call our office at 314-381-0750.
