During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are inviting people to take self-guided tours through Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum.

You can drive through the cemetery along 14 miles of paved roadway, or tour our newly painted white line route from the comfort of your car. You can also walk through the cemetery and practice social distancing, keeping at least 6 feet apart from other people who may be visiting the cemetery at the same time. Dog walking is permitted, but please follow our leash laws and clean up after them. You may also ride a bike through the cemetery by yourself or with a friend. Safe social distancing is recommended for all cyclists, too.

We have maps in a box right outside of our main office door, which is located immediately on the right as you enter the cemetery gates at 4947 W. Florissant. You may tour Bellefontaine Cemetery from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Cemetery gates are locked promptly at 5:00 p.m.

Cathleen’s Chapel Walking Tour

Walking is the best way to experience a cemetery. It allows us to get up close to observe trees and plants as well as the symbols and images on monuments. The tour will begin inside the Hotchkiss Chapel built in 1909. On the road, we’ll walk to the final resting place of Adolphus and Lily Busch, several Civil War generals, Steamboat captains, a contemporary artist and the founder of kindergarten.

Some of the names you may not recognize but their stories will intrigue you.

♦   Space is limited and reservations are required
♦   Walking terrain is mild with a mixture of hard and soft surfaces
♦   Please wear appropriate outdoor walking attire
♦   We ask that everyone arrive 15 to 20 minutes before tour time for a prompt departure
♦   This is a rain or shine event except in the case of extreme lightning

Tours are free, however, donations to the Friends of Bellefontaine Cemetery are gratefully accepted.
