Beyond the Gates: Noteworthy and Notorious Women at Bellefontaine Cemetery

Our program highlights some of the “Noteworthy and Notorious Women” who are laid to rest here at Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum. Depending on a period, one can be both Noteworthy and Notorious. Today, Virginia Minor is Noteworthy for her efforts to secure the right to vote for women. She was considered so Notorious in her day that no Clergy was allowed to preside for her funeral. Getty Cori had few job options in her day, so she took a position that labeled her an assistant to her husband at Washington University. She would become the third woman and the first American woman in history to win the Nobel Prize in science. Learn about many other women who left their mark on history and then made their final resting place at Bellefontaine Cemetery.

Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
