Horticulture Class – Gardening with Native Fruits Trees & Edible Plants

RESCHEDULED FROM JUNE TORNADO CLOSURE! Join Horticulturist Nick Clemens for a workshop on foodscaping with native fruit trees and other garden appropriate wild edibles plants like serviceberries, pawpaws, passionflowers and persimmons.

Our indigenous edible plants often require less maintenance, are easy to grow without pesticides, and provide not just for ourselves but our native birds, butterflies and wildlife.

This class features both a walking tour and a classroom survey of some of our wild food sources in Missouri.  We will learn how to identify, select, plant, and care for several of the tastiest plants and answer specifics around topics like pollination and cultivars. If we are lucky, we might even forage some ourselves!

This class will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

It is free to attend with a suggested donation of $15 per person. Space is limited and registration is required.

  • Please wear appropriate walking attire and comfortable walking shoes
  • Please bring your own bottled water,
  • Please arrive at the main entrance between 15 to 20 minutes before class time for a prompt departure.
