When Bellefontaine Cemetery was founded in 1849, burial practices were simple: Bodies were simply placed inside wood caskets. Cremation and embalming came much later. Nowadays at Bellefontaine—the first cemetery in St. Louis to offer green burial services—individuals may choose to forgo embalming and be buried inside biodegradable containers such as linen shrouds and wicker caskets. This program will be led by Richard Lay.
The class is presented in cooperation with the St. Louis Community College Continuing Education Department.
St. Louis Community College Continuing Education Classes are free to the public, but reservations are required.
