James McIlvaine Riley

One of three founders of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Riley was a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute during the Reconstruction. Along with James Frank Hopkins & Greenfield Quarles, they formed the “Legion of Honor.” This soon became Sigma Nu Fraternity, the first “honor” fraternity in North America.
