Our grounds are open to the public year round. Visit on your own, come for a tour, or attend a special event.

Hours, Directions, and Visitor Etiquette

Visiting hours are 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. everyday of the year, including weekends and holidays. The cemetery office is open for inquiries daily until 4:30. Business hours are 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment.

From I-70, take Exit 245B – West Florissant Avenue. Proceed northwest on West Florissant for 0.7 miles to the cemetery’s main entrance. It is on the right, just after Shreve and before Kingshighway. For specific directions, click here.

Bellefontaine Cemetery is a sacred place. Visitors are asked to behave in a quiet and reverent manner.

  • Remember that we are an active cemetery; please avoid disturbing a graveside or chapel service and family members that are visiting their loved ones.
  • Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Pets are welcomed but must be on a leash.
  • Firearms are prohibited with the exception of the Military Honor Guard and re-enactors.
  • Visitors and lot owners are requested to leave comments and inquiries at the cemetery office.
  • Soliciting within the cemetery is prohibited.

Bellefontaine offers a variety of tours to suit your interests, including a Notable Person Tour and a Civil War Tour. Contact our staff to schedule a complimentary visit for your group.

We have also developed a Speaker’s Bureau, with experts available, to discuss the cemetery’s history, architecture, horticulture, and about the many notable St. Louisans buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Speakers include Carol Ferring Shepley, author of the award-winning book, “Movers and Shakers, Scalawags and Suffragettes: Tales from Bellefontaine Cemetery.” Please contact us to inquire about arranging a speaking engagement.
