SUMMARY:Iconography - Zoom Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Iconography and Bellefontaine Cemetery (Online Presentation)\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you are interested in Iconography\, then join us for a free 50-minute Zoom presentation featuring some of the different symbols you may see at Bellefontaine Cemetery and their meanings. Iconography is the study or interpretation of images or symbols used on headstones\, crypts\, and mausoleums in a cemetery. Cemeteries are virtual encyclopedias of symbolism. The symbols on a person’s grave may help tell us something about their life. Grave markers not only record the dearly departed’s name and dates of birth and death\, but the design can often indicate a person’s history\, religion\, ethnicity\, culture\, occupation\, or social status\, as well as their pleasures\, sorrows\, and hopes for the afterlife. \n\n\n\nThis free online presentation runs from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. \nWatch from the comfort of your home or wherever you may be!  \nReservations are required\, so please sign up now for this free online presentation! \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW!\n\nMAKE A GIFT\nThis online presentation is free\, however\, donations to the Friends of Bellefontaine Cemetery are gratefully accepted. SUMMARY:Sunday Trolley Tour at Bellefontaine
DESCRIPTION:New: Sunday Trolley Tours at Bellefontaine! \nJoin us for our newest Trolley Tour! This two-hour Trolley Tour is inspired by the 1944 Tour created by Historian John A. Bryan. During the war years (1943)\, the National Park Service created a series of talks on Sunday afternoon and presented in the Old Court House. This program was to give alternatives to automobile use due to the war needs. \nThe subjects of these talks included historic homes\, churches\, business buildings\, the site of the 1904 World’s Fair\, and finally a part of Bellefontaine Cemetery. \nSince the talk and suggested walking tour of Bellefontaine proved to be one of the most popular of the series\, the Bellefontaine Cemetery Association created a booklet that could then be followed as a self tour of part of the Cemetery grounds. \nThis Trolley tour will follow in those same steps in the comfort of a climate controlled trolley\, led by the Cemetery Chronicler. \nEnter the grounds of Bellefontaine Cemetery at 4947 W. Florissant\, and staff/volunteers will guide you to parking and Willow Gate House to begin the tour. \nThis trolley tour is from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.\n♦ Seating is limited and tickets are required.♦ We ask that everyone arrive 15 minutes early for a prompt departure.♦ The Trolley is climate controlled but weather-appropriate clothing is suggested as opportunities to disembark from the vehicle are available.♦ Trolley tour tickets are free with a suggested donation of $5 each. \nREGISTER NOW!\n \n \nMAKE A GIFT\nDonations to the Friends of Bellefontaine Cemetery are always gratefully accepted.
