DESCRIPTION:All aboard the trolley at Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum for a special 1904 World’s Fair trolley tour! From David R. Francis to Isaac Taylor\, this tour will spotlight the people who helped shape the event that took place in Forest Park from April 30 through December 1\, 1904. \n20 million visitors attended the Louisiana Purchase Exposition\, and some of those attendees traveled to Bellefontaine Cemetery to pay homage to a person directly connected to the new American Territory acquired in 1803! \nTrolley tour tickets are free with a suggested donation of $5 each. Our hosts from the Mourning Society of St. Louis will aid you on your journey to the past by supplying knowledge of games of the past? \nABOUT THE GUIDED WALKING TOURS: \nEach of the guided walks will be one hour over less than a mile of light terrain. \n\nThe history walking tours will focus on historical stories\, architecture\, and some iconography.\nThe iconography walking tours will focus on the imagery/symbols on different monuments and their meanings.\n\nABOUT THE SEATED PRESENTATION: \nJoin us for a PowerPoint presentation on those persons associated with the Louisiana Purchase Exposition\, whose final place of rest is Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum. \nDavid R. Francis\, President of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition\, was vital in securing this event for the City of St. Louis. All eyes turned to St. Louis as the new century was on display in the fair’s larger-than-life palaces\, and new technology was front and center throughout the Fair Grounds. In our presentation\, we will identify and explain some of the key figures in the creation and execution of the 1904 World’s Fair.
