SUMMARY:Mausoleum Tour
DESCRIPTION:This two-hour walk with Master Guides Tom and Dan will focus on Prospect Avenue – home to many of Bellefontaine’s mausolea. DESCRIPTION:Grave Symbols: Going out in Style \nGrave markers not only record the departed’s pleasures\, sorrow\, and hopes for the afterlife\, but also their history\, ethnicity\, and culture. \nThis interactive workshop begins in Hotchkiss Chapel with a presentation on some of the common symbology found in cemeteries.  You will learn the history of the symbols and how they were interpreted in their time periods. \nAfter the presentation\, attendees will be invited to explore the grounds around Hotchkiss Chapel to search for some of the images presented.  Cemetery researchers will be on hand to help find the imagery noted and interpret some details about the life of the person in question. \nSkills taught in this workshop will aid in genealogy and history searches using cemeteies a tool. \n\nHotchkiss Chapel presentation – 5:30 – 6:30 PM\nTouring the Chapel grounds – 6:30 – 7:30 PM
