Along the way, we will visit the graves of a madam, a beat generation author, the original owner of the Browns and many more folks that shaped our city. Attention will be paid to architecture and the meanings of memorial art. The route goes through some of the most beautiful parts of the cemetery and arboretum on a two-hour walk.” Tours will cover about 2 miles across moderate terrain. Please wear appropriate walking attire. Slots are limited and reservations are required. We ask that everyone arrive between 15 to 20 minutes before tour time for a prompt departure. Tulips & Hyacinth in Wild Wood Valley May 6th is National Public Garden Day. To celebrate, Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum will host a walking tour beginning at 1:30 PM. The two hour walk will cover approximately two miles of moderate terrain. The walk will focus on Wildwood Valley Gardens. This developing garden features water elements and multiple planting beds with over 10,000 bulbs, plants, and trees. Horticulture Supervisor, Kyle Cheesborough and Horticulturist, Nathan Evans will be on hand to talk about the creating this unique garden space.

With a focus on sculpture, you will be led on a 2-hour walking tour past beautiful statuary, artists laid to rest at Bellefontaine, and even into some wonderful examples of architecture. Bellefontaine Cemetery will host its second annual Decoration Day event on Saturday, June 4th, 2016. This large-scale living history event will explore a 14 year period, beginning with the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (otherwise known as the 1904 World’s Fair), and will feature reenactors from other historical events taking place up until the close of World War I in November of 1918. Living history provides a ‘first-hand’ account of the lives of people associated with historical events. This Decoration Day event will be attended by suffragists, doughboys, movers and shakers of the World’s Fair, important figures from the Missouri Botanical Garden, and vintage automobiles and horse-drawn carriages of the time period.
