Consolations of Memory at Bellefontaine Cemetery, Saturday, October 15, 2022
After a two year hiatus this event is back at Bellefontaine Cemetery!
This isn’t like all the other fall cemetery tours. Rather than portraying the spirits of those buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery we portray the living, breathing people of the era who were left behind to mourn the loss of a loved one.
This year’s event will focus on the importance of symbolism during the nineteenth century from cemetery iconography to the language of the flowers. A short walking tour will be followed by 19th century funeral service held in Hotchkiss Chapel, burial procession and graveside service of Mary Waters, who died in 1868 at the age of 102.
This is a free event. Tours take place at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. Space is limited, so be sure to register for one of these tours here today!
