Consolations of Memory

October 2 @ 10:00 am 4:00 pm

Consolations of Memory

Bellefontaine Cemetery, Saturday, October 2, 2021

Consolations of Memory isn’t quite like all the other fall cemetery tours. Rather than portraying the spirits of those buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery, we portray the living, breathing people of the era who were left behind to mourn the loss of a loved one.

Our 2021 tour will lead you through Bellefontaine Cemetery’s beautiful Wildwood Valley. On this tour, you will learn about nineteenth century mourning practices, the St. Louis Ladies’ Union Aid Society and other organizations in St Louis that supported soldiers, widows and orphans in St Louis during the Civil War. The tour will be followed by a reenactment of the burial service of Mary E. Palmer in August of 1865.

This is a free event. Tours take place at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. Space is limited so be sure to register for one of these tours here today!
